About The Institution of Engineering and Technology


The Institution of Engineering and Technology was formed by the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE) and now has more than 150,000 members worldwide. It is the largest professional engineering society in Europe and the second largest in the world. We aim to serve a global community engaged in engineering and technology, providing a knowledge network accessible whenever or wherever you choose. The history of the Institution can be traced back to 1871.

The Institution has 40 technical interest groups from Communications Engineering, Computing and Control, Electronic Systems & Software, Information Professional, Management, Manufacturing, Power and Transport, with worldwide participation and more than 90 Local Knowledge Networks each covering a wide range of technical interests in 37 countries around the world. They provide a local focus for engineering and technology, including organised events, technical lectures and company visits. It has offices in London, Beijing and Hong Kong, with an office in Bangalore opening in late 2006.
